welcome chloe!

our dear friends jen and tim had their first baby on wednesday!

here is our long distance congrats to them and their new addition Chloe Suzanne!

we can't wait to meet her next week!

XO,
auntie sadie + dr. dave

eddie vedder + crab

we said goodbye to one of my new favorite cities and headed north to Seattle just for a night.

Dave lived in Seattle for a year between undergrad and med school so we spent most of our time seeing where he used to live, eat, drink and work.  did anyone know that he worked behind the meat counter making rotisserie chickens and panini's at what is now called metro market; sold cars and rented cars all in Seattle.   All within in a year?  Busy guy.  According to Dave Seattle has changed a lot over the last ten years...

Here we are catching the sunset in Queen Anne over looking puget sound:

Still an amazing place, great vistas, fun shops and people.  We stayed at the Ace Hotel, which is a European style boutique hotel with limited everything including space...  we were greeted (as I think all guests are or maybe just us) with the kama sutra and more lifestyle condoms than one could go through in a one night stay!  When we checked in they wanted to make sure we were ok with all guests being able to see into the shower...  see photos below.

we had a great dinner of Dungeness crab and called it a day. stopped at east side records to pick up the into the wild cd, it's an awesome soundtrack for our trip.  not much to report on Seattle other than we love it, and we'll be back!

Had to get up early to catch the ferry to the San Juan's the next day.

stop to smell the roses

apparently Portland is the city of roses.  who knew?  we've spent the last few days relaxing and winding down.  this is a great city, it's geographically small and manageable on bike, it's weird, has great local food and extremely green.  the only place i can compare it to is new zealand.

we've truly enjoyed our hotel, the monaco, especially the happy hour from five to six where they sample the local brew and guests are allowed to paint.  our masterpiece will hang proudly in our hall - it's the first time we've painted anything (other than our house) since childhood.  and since we've arrived out west everything has been upgraded - the tinny car to a full-size, the regular hotel room to the suite; good times.

the food has been great, especially at clyde common.  the coffee is great.  we went to a local brew pub, the deschutes brewery where sarah feel in love with a rose hip infused seasonal brew and dave the black butte.

off to get a close-up of mt. rainier and hood.

peace.

go west

bright and early tomorrow morning we are headed to Portland, OR to kick-off our northwest safari.  i doubt we'll see bigfoot or a man pretending to be bigfoot.  but i'll keep my eyes peeled.

our tentative plan...

sat/sun : explore Portland staying at the Hotel Monaco for a few nights

mon : head east towards mt. hood and north to mt. rainier and find a few trails to stretch our legs

tues/wed : make our way to the san juan islands for some whale watching, kayaking and fresh seafood

thurs - sun : all the way north... to Vancouver where dave will be attending a pediatric sports med seminar while i take in a few yoga classes, and eat at tojo's sushi (melt in your mouth good) at least a few times

we'll try to update throughout the trip!
have a great week,

friday the 13th

(ticket stub from the game that hangs in our hall!)

thanks to our good friends laura and tim, the yankees and something bigger than us, five years ago today Dave and I met.  i can remember that weekend meeting Dave and thinking, I would never move to St. Louis.  Where is it?  Missouri, right?

well heaps has changed, including my attitude towards St. Louis, maybe not Missouri but at least St. Louis.  it's been an amazing five years and although i myself can't believe it, i've really never been happier.  here's to five more and to loving Friday the 13th!

watching our garden grow

we decided to try our hand at gardening... in an effort to grow our own food and be a bit greener.
the first day...

Almost a month later (June 9, photo below)... we have leaves.  lots and lots of green leaves.  the marigolds are keeping bunnies, large dogs and squirrels at bay for the moment!  and i hope to report at least one edible veg  this summer.

the herb garden is producing like crazy, and so far have made pesto from the basil and gazpacho from the epazote (Mexican spice) and cilantro. yum!  for those of you in the 314, swing on by for some herbs... lemon verbena, cilantro, sage, basil, parsley, it's yours for the pickin'
